Our Principles Statement

These guiding principles define the department's operating beliefs, enable each individual to confide in each other as colleagues, and ensure our trustworthiness in external relationships.

  1. We work in an execution-oriented environment where the success of the department and its individuals is measured by results and the ability to follow through on commitments
  2. We do not make commitments we cannot keep. When someone requests something we cannot do, we explain that we cannot do it and offer feasible options rather than say yes and then fail.
  3. We communicate only what we know, and don't pretend to know things which we don't.
  4. We engage in continual self-evaluation and self-improvement to ensure that we develop both professionally and personally.
  5. We reinforce each other's discipline, creativity, and sense of the possible in an exciting environment that is characterized by mutual respect and challenging and fulfilling activity.
  6. We surround ourselves with world-class individuals and partners in order to advance our noble purposes and achieve our aspirations.
  7. We solve problems and balance standardization with customization.
  8. We strive to work with systems, infrastructure, metadata, software, and data to exchange information and to use the information that has been exchanged without special effort on the part of the client or end users.
